St Ives Apricot Scrub - Blemish Control
Updated: Jun 11, 2019
I have always struggled with skin care. I went through phases of using just making up wipes, to cleansers, toners and moisturisers. Then back to just an exfoliation and wipe. I constantly went back and fourth with different products not really knowing what worked for my skin.
I had heard a lot of great responses to the St Ives Apricot Scrub and decided to stop neglecting my skin and to give it a go!
When looking at the description online I saw lots of mixed opinions about how the product worked for people, majority of people said it worked great to smooth there skin but not to get rid of blemishes like labelled. I saw people with dry and oily skin both say it did wonders and also saw a few negative comments about how it creates tears in people’s skin and redness. The rating on the Superdrug website was 4.7/5 which i think is great and made me even more tempted to try it out. I brought the scrub for £4.19 and it has was 150ml of product in! Which would last me a long period of time so the price is very, very reasonable! In fact quit cheap!
The products ingredients contained lots of natural ingredients which I love as I dislike very strong chemical products and never felt like they helped my skin. The scrub contains crushed walnut shell which I know can be harsh on the skin sometimes, and would not be an appropriate product to use everyday. However it’s milled into a fine powder, which means a softer scrub! It is also oil free and paraben free and dermatologist tested & non comedogenic, (meaning it doesn’t clog your pores!). The benefits of the product are that is cleans pores, and contains oil-free salicylic acid to help prevent new blackheads and blemishes from forming.
I used the product 3 times a week for 3 weeks (so far). The first day using the product my skin wasn’t the best, my pores were large & blackheads covered over my nose, chin and around the outside of my lips (upper lip & lower). I had a few red spots on my cheeks and one or two whiteheads on my chin. On the back of the product it explains how to use it. Making sure to apply a small portion of the product to a wet/damp face. I used a hot flannel to cover my face and warm water and squirted maybe the size of 3 green peas on my hand and rubbed the product over my face using my fingers. I ensured to be gentle as I could definitely feel how the product was grainy and didn’t want to be to harsh on my skin, I used circular motions around my nose and all the areas around my pores and blackhead and put a slight bit more pressure when rubbing on those areas (but not too much!). It felt very nice against my skin, almost like a miniature massage. I didn’t feel any irritation or stinging sensation, the product smelt amazingly!! Of apricots which is perfect for someone like me who adores those sweet, fresh scents. After a minute or so I rinsed the access’s product of my hands and used warm water to wash the scrub off my face. It defiantly took a bit of time trying to make sure every grain from the exfoliator was off my skin and I kept rinsing my face again whilst checking in the mirror if I had missed any areas! But this was expected and not a big problem! After this I went back in with cold water and splashed my face to help close my pores then pat my face dry with a clean towel. Looking in the mirror I could immediately see radiance on my skin as if the scrub had revealed my natural radiance! My skin wasn't red at all, which I was shocked by as products normally always give my skin slight redness especially when using hot water. It felt super soft and smooth! I was so impressed with how soft it felt and clear it made my skin look from just using it once! And could defiantly see that my old skin cells had been buffed away!! I applied a light moisturiser over my face and neck and left it at that. My face didn’t feel tight or dry even before moisturising it! The product had defiantly wowed me after my first use!
A week later I had noticed my spots had started to clear up, I began to question myself... Was it because I have been drinking more water? Because I didn’t eat something I usually do? Or was it the scrub?! My skin felt amazingly soft, and when applying make up to my face I noticed how nicely my foundation glided on than usual, just because of how smooth the scrub had made my skin! The blackheads on my nose area were still visible however appeared less than usual. So far I was so impressed!
After two weeks I could 100% see a difference in my skin! My face looked more clean, more radiant and smooth! My pores almost seemed as if they were shrinking and the blackheads were vanishing! For having sensitive skin I was sure I would have some redness or dryness by now and I didn’t!
And now after 3 weeks I have used the product in total 9 times and I honestly feel as if it has transformed my skin. My family and friends have complimented me on different occasions asking what I've used to make my skin look so fresh and beautiful without make up on. My spots had vanished and I really felt like the scrub had helped that. I feel like my skin glows after every time I use it and I look forward to picking it up and massaging my face with it every time! The fact it still has a lot of product in after already using it for 3 weeks is amazing, and the price is so affordable! Also the design on the tube of the apricots is super cute! In conclusion I absolutely love this product and would 1000% recommend it to everyone struggling with blackheads and blemishes or anyone who's looking for a new exfoliator!
